Implementation of Parental Leaves in Malaysia?

Paid Parental leave, or family leave, is an employee benefit available in almost all countries. The term “parental leave” may include maternity, paternity, and adoption leave; or may be used distinctively from “maternity leave” and “paternity leave” to describe separate family leave available to either parent to care for small children. In some countries and jurisdictions, “family leave” also includes leave provided to care for ill family members. Often, the minimum benefits and eligibility requirements are stipulated by law.

Malaysia has increased the maternity and paternity leaves in 2023 but those leaves are currently applicable only to those with newborns. Therefore, there is an urge to implement paternal leaves whereby parents should be provided equal and extended parental leaves for both parents/caregivers to attend to their sick children or any other necessary activities related to their children regardless of age.

Youth
Shadow Cabinet

8 July 2023, Saturday

A youth shadow cabinet is a group of young people who are elected to serve as a symbolic opposition to the government’s cabinet. This is often done in countries with a parliamentary system where the cabinet is made up of senior government officials.

Members of this cabinet typically hold regular meetings to discuss current issues and develop policy proposals that they believe would benefit young people and society as a whole. Is it crucial for Malaysia to implement the Youth Shadow Cabinet officially at the Ministry level and how would this bring a change to our nation?

Climate
Change Act

8 July 2023, Saturday

Malaysia does not have a specific climate change act, though the country has taken steps to address climate change through various policies and initiatives. However, the Climate Change Act was first proposed in 2018 and its most recent progress is that it would be ready by 2025 or 2026. That would be two or three years from now. The Climate Change Act has met a lot of setbacks and it is very crucial to treat this bill as urgent in dealing with the climate crisis today. Malaysia needs to implement the Climate Change Act in the most feasible way and to create the most comprehensive climate laws Malaysia can implement.

Implementation of Political Education in High School

19 August 2023, Saturday

With the lowering of the voting age, by passing the Undi 18 Bill in Malaysia in July 2019, along with provisions for automatic voter registration, the turnout, especially among the youth, was low in the recent election.

In a random survey, many youth aged 18-21 years did not vote because they were not exposed to the political arena and also had a bad perception of politics.

Therefore, should political education be implemented as a subject in secondary schools to encourage youth to vote?
